Kata? I haven't seen the movie so I'll defer. Wushu, or martial arts has very interesting ties to China's past. They stretch and study for long hours. Once while we were visiting, my son went to a wushu practice session of two hours. My son was amazed at the emphasis on stretching. Forms are a way of refining fighting movements without being bored. T'ai qi is Chinese yoga integrating fighting movements. Kata is actually a Japanese term. Interestingly, we often use Japanese terms to describe a Chinese art form.
