No this really happened in front of me and a few hundred others in the San Diego stake, fall of 2004 I think.

Apparently President Packer met with President Heap (the SP) and other local leaders during the day and discussed several important issues.

Later, while Packer was at the pulpit, he said "now I'm going to ask President Heap to talk about a very important issue" and sat down, not specifying what it was he wanted to hear. Heap got to the pulpit, unsure on what subject he was supposed to discuss. Apparently he chose the wrong topic because Packer stood up and smacked him.
