Top Gun
I have to say, figuring out that Top Gun came out 21 years ago makes me feel REALLY old.
Top Gun is sort of like the perfect catchy pop song. It has a great hook, a catchy chorus, a nice bridge, and a good sendoff. It's the following: 1) action film (macho aspect with jets) 2) romance flick (Kelly McGillis doing her last turn as sex object before old age comes crashing down) 3) buddy flick (Anthony Edwards as the straight man to Cruise) 4) mano a mano rivalry flick (maverick vs IceMan) 5) soundtrack flick (one of the most memorable of the 1980s) 6) sex flick (no nudity, but the silhouetted tongues surely got many 12 year old boys hot and bothered) A pop song can still be good, even if its cheesy. That's why Top Gun will live on. Last edited by MikeWaters; 07-02-2007 at 02:26 PM. |

There is a movie with Quentin Terantino where he's at a party and he's trying to convince a guy that the entire movie "Top Gun" is a metaphor for the gay lifestyle. It was absolutely hilarious. If I could remember the name of the movie, I could probably find that portion of the script pretty easily. Has anyone else ever seen it? I can't think of another person in the movie that was famous. I'm kind of remembering an older Eric Stolz but I could be wrong. Movie seemed to be early 90's.
Ok, I think I found it. WARNING!!!! I don't have sound on this computer but I'm certain that it contains enough f-bombs to meet a quota for a year or more. It's Tarantino after all. Please don't blame me if you click on this video and don't like what you hear. Also, it may not be the right clip and I can't check it without sound. So if it's wrong I'll fix it when I get home.
