Default Monson as Prophet

anyone have any speculation as to what that would be like? directions he might take the church?

I think it is impossible to know. I have no idea. Although it would not be surprising to me if he shook up the church more than any other prophet in the last century.

Interesting. He doesn't seem like a shaker upper to me. His talks are as non-controversial as any of the brethren. I think he would continue Pres. Hinckley's trend of "being good" and not sticking our necks out.

The major trend I'm waiting for is about 20 years from now when most of the brethren will be Y graduates with none or few U grads. This will be when we start seeing some $ and enthusiasm pumped through the BYU athletic department.

I don't have evidence. I just have a hunch.

Such thoughts cause me to look more and more like the lovely future Missus Tim Tebow......

President Monson does seem to be a very uncontroversial, "come, let us reason together" type of a teacher. He would probably be quick to emphasize loving our neighbor and fellow man over adhering to the minutiae of commandments.

But then again, he has never been THE president. Who knows how his approach might change once the mantle is upon him.

I don't know about that. As the church continues to grow, especially outside of the US, I think we're going to see a more international Quorum. My guess is that in 20 years the church will become majority owner of Real Salt Lake and that's where the $ will go. Soccer is the #1 sport on the planet after all. Why waste missionary tool money on a provincial private college located in a community that is so homogeneous because the entire population is already LDS, when it can be used to convert people throughout the entire world?

Because most of the decision makers will be bigger fans of BYU football than soccer?

Are you saying that the Brethren are sport xenophobes?

Perhaps you're right. What's an ALUF to do? (deep sigh). I'll still find solace that my tithing dollars will more likely go to stocking the creamery for the sweet spirits that keep it in business.

Imagine how bad it will suck to be an LDS Ute fan when BYU is the showpiece of a 50M member church with a 20M U.S. recruiting base.
