doesn't look so inviting. I will shorten it.

Not sure the temp, but it was cold for my morning ride. The cold wasn't the problem so much as the ice.

Well I shouldn'ty whine compared to you Utahns, but I've grown accustomed to the nice temps we normally experience.

It's all relative. 30 to you is probably like 10 to me.

All the more reason to go for a longer ride. No sense in quitting your ride just as you are warming up and the weather is finally getting nice.
Do you have good cold weather gear? I recently upgraded some warm cycling accessories and it has made a huge difference in my comfort levels riding in the cold. |

What do you guys use to keep your toes warm? I've tried various combinations of booties and socks, but my toes always freeze within 30 minutes once the weather turns cold.

I get those hand warmers and place them over the toe, then cover it up with a bootie. I still freeze, but it works for a while.

Last week I wore toe covers and then slid a fabric shoe cover over the top of that. I found it over at Performancebike.com for $10 a couple of weeks ago. The temp was about 32 degrees plus whatever windchill you get on a road bike and I was very comfortable. I've just used toe covers in the past and get cold after 20 minutes or so. Some of my buddies use neoprene booties and do okay as well.
I would also recommend a good pair of wool socks. I use Defeet woolie boolies. They are great socks. They keep you much warmer in the cold weather but as the temps heat up they are still very comfortable up to 60-70 degrees. |
