Default Question for my older friends

Creekster, Jeff etc..

When I was about 10 years old there was a band that got some radio play called the Allan Parsons Project. There was one song in particular that I really liked, but I was 10 so what did I know. The only time I've ever even heard the band mentioned since I was 10 was when Mike Meyers referenced them in Austin Powers. Was this band any good? Or should I be embarrassed for admitting to liking one of their tunes?

Alan Parsons Project is outstanding.

Turn of a Friendly Card is one of the greatest albums ever made. In fact, I don't think they've ever released an albumn that sucked.

You are aware that the Chicago Bulls pre-game introductions are done with APP over the loudspeakers, no?

And I beleive we're close to the same age. (I'm 42)

I didn't know that was APP in the Bulls pregame music. I'm glad to know that even at 10 I picked a good band, (I'm 36 btw).

Here's a follow up question. Why no airplay on classic stations?

Not just the Bulls pre-game, but during the pre-game at LOTS of other events. It is the music you hear when you go to this site:

http://www.alanparsons.com/

"Turn of a Friendly Card" was a great album.

I believe it's because APP's music is much more broad than most other bands. You really can't identify them with just one type of music.

Also, and probably more accurate, is that I believe they are a studio band only. I don't think they've ever toured. A lot of stations don't really want to play the music of a band if there is not a chance of that band coming to play in a venue in that city.

This thread has prompted me to put some APP in the cd player and listen. Unfortunately, I can't turn the volume up as the kids are trying to sleep.

APP is a great band. Alan Parsons the man was the sound engineer on The Dark Side of the Moon album by Floyd and is credited with the vidsionary sound engineering found on that album which was far ahead of its time. APP the band was priamrily a studio creation, sort of like Steely Dan. I think they did play a few gigs (although I could be worng) but not many.

ALso, Turn of a Friendly Card is a fantastic album. Listen to it and you can hear a ltitle bit of Dark Side in there.
