Default Foreign Bands

Has there ever been a more successful foreign band than the group: Abba?

Restrictions: English was not their primary language.

I can't think of another band that really comes close.

The Scorpions?

"Here I am
Rock you like a hurricane"

Probably not as big as ABBA though...

My brief research shows that Ace of Base has the best selling album of any non-English speaking band, but that their total sales (30 Million world wide) are only about half of Abba.

I know that they are not 'bands' and they don't have the history of ABBA, but Ricky Martin and Shakira have sure sold a lot of albums. Where does Menudo (and all their band variations with different bandmates) fit in?

Did ABBA outsell the Scorpions? The Scorpions were around an awful long time.

ABBA, and I would like to make perfectly clear I am not a huge fan, even though I can't help toe-tapping and humming when I hear some of their tunes, but forgive me, where was I? Oh yes, ABBA has sold well over 350 MILLION records. That is huge. I am comfortable specualting that this is substantially moer than the Skorpions (didn't they spell it with a 'k'?). That is enough for every man, wmoan and child in this country with 50 million or so left over for France or some other backward outpost of ignorance.

Wow. I knew ABBA did well, but I had no idea they did THAT well! What was their US sales number?
