Sometimes I chew gum to stay awake. If for example, I've worked the entire night without sleep I will chew gum while driving to stay awake.
I was thinking however, would it rude to chew gum in the temple? What if your only choice to prevent from falling asleep was to chew gum? You have to choose between chewing gum and falling asleep. Neither is really ideal, so which should it be? I'm trying to imagine if I was Jesus, and talking to an audience. Would I be more offended by bobbing sleeping heads or gum-chewing? The sleeping would bother me more. But I would advise against loud smacking, open-mouth chewing, and certainly no blowing bubbles. And the best thing is to try and get enough rest such that you can just stay awake without needing gum. Or caffeine for that matter. |
