Default Should I use ward members to help me move?

Many have offered.

On the other hand, I could dip into my own pocket, and pay for moving. Thus allowing these folks to spend more time with their families.

Dilemmas.

They say that many people enjoy serving others, but have difficulty accepting service in return.

I think you pay to move most of it, and perhaps have some very light stuff moved in as an excuse to have a party to meet your new ward. IOW, pianos, curio-cabinets, bedsets and the like are moved professionally, whereas basketball hoops are moved in by friends and you plan, play and help Farrah with (don't delegate) the provision of ample supplies of good food and beverages. It will be an abnormal Mormon moving, appreciated by all.

Umm, if I pay for movers, I am not springing for a party for a bunch of people to come and damage my remaining stuff. I'm anti-social, remember?

But Farrah's not. Neither are the kids. You do this for the family.

Or perhaps you skip the pretense and just have a we're glad to be here party for the EQ, free food and drink. It will surprise everybody and set your family for acceptance into the ward.

and put me on the fast track for a time-consuming calling? No thanks.

Just hired some movers tonight. I hope I get some kudos for using my own money to allow these guys to spend time with their families.

Mike - I like the idea of leaving some stuff for the ward to help out with. But I like the idea of just having peeps over to hang out and have fun.

Take it from someone who has moved more times than I care to remember. You cannot expect to hang back and let people come to you. Doing this will only leave you and Farrah disappointed and frustrated. For the first 2 months in Fayetteville, we had different families over every Sunday for dinner and to hang out. It was a good investment of time and gustatory currency. (I just amazed myself with that last one.) I am going to stop now and just admire my prose. LOL!

Then throw a party for Farrah and the kids. It will make their transition all the better. Even Zulu supports this and he's an Aggie.

Just being at the new place is like a party for our kids. It was fun to see them play in the backyard, throwing berries. Jumping around, climbing on stuff. Our street is a destination-street, so not much traffic. Kids playing outside. Very different than our old home which is on a somewhat major residential street. Drab backyard.

Social integration is more important for the family members. Yes, you're anti-social that cannot be denied, but that doesn't mean others are.
