Mitt Romney campaiging for '12
He had an editorial opinion in the Times, saying that the Big 3 should be allowed to go bankrupt.
Of course, when he was campaigning in Michigan, his tenor seemed to be "we'll do whatever it takes to save your jobs." Minor detail. We can forgive a man for wanting the nomination in a bad way. Heaven knows, I have done much worse. |

I have nothing against the guy. I tend to favor the idea of not bailing out the Big 3.
To some degree, flip-flopping is part of a politician's job. Wow, what an awful way to live. Trying to be popular and loved. I'm at a tender age still, and I'm proud that I have taken unpopular positions and said things that are true, but hard to hear, which have effectively destroyed any chance I ever had of being a politician. Not that I would want to be one. I stand for change we don't want to believe in. |

Romney appears to be a top notch manager, and a sub par politician. To be a great president, you must be great at both.
If he's ever going to make it in the rough and tumble world of politics, he's going to have to show that he can do the latter as well as the former.

Why are the two mutually exclusive (saving jobs and reorganizing the Big Three)?
Twenty five years ago there were 1.5MM UAW workers. Today there is less than 500K – the lowest number since WWII and it's only going lower, with or without the loan. Someone has to burn that house down, in order to save it. Somewhat related...there is no question BHO desires a honeymoon, but it makes me smile when Ds pander to Big Union with no noise and when Rs pander to Big Oil it's the end of the world, Teapot Dome II, etc.

Prop up a dead and unviable industry? Okay. Bring in a bunch of deadwood from the Clinton administration? Okay.
