I hate interval training
After laying off interval training, I resumed this month and it sucks.
We do a two mile warm up, three 110 striders, three one mile repeats with one minute rest, and three two hundreds with a warm down. Now before the rest of you yuck it up, it was more difficult than it should have been. First mile, 6:28, second mile 6:33, and third mile was a sufferfest at 6:43. Yikes, where did that come from. And I almost puked. Don't lay off intervals. I could not have done a fourth mile if I had wanted to, unless walking would have counted.

Dude I can almost run a mile at that speed. Are you using knobby tires, with a broken spoke?

Several of them are quite beautiful as well. Next week we do four hundreds. I hate quarters.

I applaud you for even getting out there and doing them. Intervals suck so bad.
I had decided that I was going to start them this week, but reading your post has made me reconsider. I am currently reading a book about those that were the first to break the 4:00 minute mile and the training they did was insane. Bannister for 2 months only ran intervals. Everyday, no rest days. That is pain. He was also a medical student at the time and putting in 16 hour days at the hospital. |

Mike, what's your problem if Bannister could do it in the fifties, why can't you do it now? Jim Ryan once had a workout of 40 x 400s under a minute. I cannot imagine that much pain.
