talking about how far he has moved to the left, in hopes of being re-elected. Even going so far as suggesting that Bush's actions in Iraq have been criminal.

(Gordon is LDS, for those of you who didn't know).

His brother is fairly liberal as well (he is a judge on the 9th Circuit). I don't know that Sen. Smith is putting on a show.

Harry Reid has already established the notion that you can be a liberal harlot and LDS member at the same time.

Gordon Smith is a Udall, so the fact that he became a republican in the first place was a move to the right. One could argue that he's just getting back to his roots.

There are lots of active Udalls, just not many in the direct political tree.
