Default Anyone know anything about Jason Chaffetz?

I'm sitting here watching Varsity Blues on TBS, and a commercial from this guy comes on. BYU place-kicker. Sounds like he is trying take over for Cannon in Utah County.

It's seems as if he is the political opposite of his uncle Mike. If I lived in the 3rd District, I'd vote for him.

It's hard to imagine that he would be worse than Cannon. I don't know too much about him, but he called out the Leavitt guy from Nephi for pandering to the far religious right. I was impressed with that.

While at school, he was very active, maybe the president of the college Democrats. He was active in the Democratic party for a while afterwards. I don't live in Utah, so I have no idea whether his conversion was real, pragmatic, or a combination of the two.

He starts out as a democrat, moves to the moderate GOP side while working for Huntsman, now he's to the right of Chris Cannon. He seems like a bit of an opportunist to me. I'm not convinced he's the "true conservative" some are hoping for.

To the right of Chris Cannon? Really?

From what little I've seen on this race, yes. But I could be wrong, I haven't paid that much attention.

We both lived in John Hall. Seemed like a nice guy.

You won't like this Jeff...

Heard him on KTALK radio today on Gayle Ruzicka's show. I don't like Ruzicka, but for me, Chaffetz was saying all the right things. Said the McCain's cap in trade was a horrible idea and that man-made global warming is a farce. Also came out against North American Union, NAFTA, CAFTA, SPP, Trans-Texas corridor, etc. as things that erode the national sovereignty of the U.S.

Now he's probably just pandering to nutballs like me but I was like hell yes! Given his background as a former democrat and Huntsman lackey, I don't trust the guy as a hard-core right winger, but on rhetoric alone, I'll vote for him. Given the losses the GOP will sustain in November, it doesn't matter who is in there anyway, Republicans will be fully neutered in the next Congress.
