Default I have a friend who is both gay and a born-again Christian

When I say gay, I mean he is attracted to men and has homosexual sex.

But he was raised in Texas, by a conservative family and still holds to his born-again beliefs.

Despite his relatively advanced age (40s), his parents still don't know (or perhaps admit) that he is gay.

His is a life in an uncomfortable equipoise. If you attack his religious beliefs he gets very upset (I have not attacked them, but others have).

Life certainly serves up its surprises and contradictions.

A good friend and I attended a memorial service for a young gay man who committed suicide on the steps of his Stake Center. We were probably among the few "straights" in attendance. It was a very moving service, and I felt the Lord's spirit moving among the mourners. His parents said that he loved the Church and couldn't live as a spiritual outcast. I just hate it when my Church's teachings require me to assent to actions and attitudes toward other human beings that, in my opinion, are not Christ-like.

To what does the LDS church require assentiveness in regards to the treatment of homosexuals? Are we required to shun them? Are we required to mock them?

Or does the church ask us to love them?

Point well taken. We are asked to love them, however, they are not allowed to live their lives to the measure of their creation, as I think Christ would allow.

He allows many things, but what does he encourage in this regard? I simply don't know.
