My family and friends all know where I stand though I never officially requested my name be removed. My Bishop in Murray was cool about it and never busted my balls. I told him straight up I think the church is not true and we talked for over an hour about the reasons why. He told me he loved me and my family and he hoped we would come back some day. We have since moved (The elders quoram even came on a Sunday unasked to help) and I don't know what happened to our records.

I just moved on and I don't really care if the church considers me a member or excommunicates me. Really, I don't give a shit either way.

thought of writing a letter and having your name removed? Not suggesting that. But I just wonder what the reasons would be for or against such a letter.

Would it be possible for a family to move into a ward and say. I believe in God and Jesus Christ. However, I believe all churches have truth and this church is not the only true church. I believe the Prophet is a great leader, but do not believe he is Gods spokesman here on earth.

I do like the social structure of this church. I feel it is as good a place to worship God as any other. I will take my family and go elsewhere if I am actively proselyted.

What would a Bishop say in an instance like that. Would the family be disruptive, like give other members the wrong idea.

I'm a busy guy and I don't really have a burning passion about it. I know some who leave get angry thinking they are still on the rolls but I couldn't care less. Excommunication would be easier as I wouldn't have to do anything.

But if the church wants to claim me I have no problem with that. I do like Mormons and the Mormon church. I just don't think its true.

See there lies the rub. My kids would be taught that all the other churches are bull. They would be taught that I'm a shitheel for drinking beer during BYU football games.

I don't want my kids growing up looking down on me for made up reasons.

I do not identify myself as Mormon. However, people do look at me funny at the bar when I tell them where I went to school.

I work in a crime lab. Odds are low that I will be stupid enough to commit a crime, or be careless enough to get caught.
