I wouldn't get too excited. Finding and using iron ore is one thing smelting it to make swords, helms, and breastplates is another. The researcher stated in the article:
...Vaughn hypothesizes that the Nasca people used the red-pigmented mineral primarily for ceramic paints, but they also could have used it as body paint, to paint textiles and even to paint adobe walls.....Even though ancient Andean people smelted some metals, such as copper, they never smelted iron like they did in the Old World. Pottery and textiles from the period survived but not the iron swords, breastplates etc? I keep waiting for them to unearth the chariots. You show me a new world chariot and I will renew my temple recommend. |
