Default Way to go, Bill Gates

Say what you will about Microsoft, Bill Gates has done a tremendous amount of good with his wealth.

His latest venture:

I think it is great he is spending his money to help others. One question I have though. These folks that are so generous, why are they doing charity outside the US. He is a dem. type and dem. types complain about our interferring in other countries affairs and complain about health care, the poor, education, etc. here in the US. Why don't they pour all their money into the areas they gripe about aren't being taken care of here at home.

why don't you do a little bit of homework before you make yourself look like an ignoramus?

You spend all that time writing up your little accusation, yet couldn't be bothered to do a 10 second google search.

$14.5B to date. That's remarkable.

I once read a quote from Bill Gates where he said that he does not believe in leaving massive wealth to children. Hence, he intends to give away almost all of his wealth before he dies. He is also opposed to repealing the estate tax.

I don't have to waste my time doing research. I know if I have made a mistake you will jump on it as fast as you can.

Oh, it didn't take much time to write up the accusation. What you are telling me is that Gates does all his charity giving here in the US?

Thanks gopher. I will have another project for you later.

Only a rich man would whine about the richest people in the planet not getting 100% of the charity

I have a ton of respect for him. His venture with Buffet is a model I wish more people would emulate.

Truly great philanthropists.

Oh so now I wasn't an ignoramous because I understood the article wrong, but because of the conclusion I came to.

Mike, after all these years you are still the hardest poster for me to figure out.

I still don't know if you just play the role of a "dumb ass" or you in fact in real life are the "dumb ass" you appear to be.

Both he and Buffet are openly opposed to dynastic wealth.

That being said, Buffet's kids head up some of his orgs and are paid massive salaries. Also, while they are opposed to leaving it all to family, they are not opposed to giving "some" to them. I have a feeling that a small portion of billions is still going to be a nice inheritance.

I went to a fundraiser last year for research institutions working on cures or vaccines for "old world" infectious diseases such as TB, malaria, and, yes, venerial diseases such as AIDS. In South Asia and Africa people are dying from these diseases at Nazi death camp rates. The thing that I never realized is that until the Gates foundation, which funds the bulk of the research, this catastraphe was practically ignored because there is no political or economic impetus to attract money to these projects. It's not like the American Cancer Society or March of Dimes.
