A poignant film for this time of year
Joyeux Noel, written about the convergence of Scottish, French and German troops starting about December 24, 1914.
It's supposed to be based on real events. I don't care if it's contrived or not, as it emphasizes how the grunts get the brunt of politics and how most people desire to get along.

I would recommend it, even if you have teenage boys or younger.
