I am fascinated by dog history. It is basically an extended eugenics experiment, with mixed results. I have two little malteses, and they are an absolute joy, but they will both likely need knee surgery, as almost all malteses do. They are better off than Dachshunds or bulldogs, but it's still an issue.

Still, it's amazing how over the course of 25 years or so, you can create a super-dog for just about any function you want.
