My singles ward has scheduled an all-chastity & porn block this Sunday

Yes in a shocking turn of events, every talk and lesson this coming Sunday will, once again, be on the tired subjects of virtue and pornography.

Now I realize the church claims to have a lay clergy, but I am convinced that singles ward bishops receive a commission every time the phrase "pornography is of the devil" is uttered during their watch.

Seriously, give it a rest. Sure it's an important topic but does it have to pop up in the rotation this often?

I am so sick of going to church and talking about porn. I would rather go to a sports bar and talk about porn. This Sunday, you will find me at Seau's watching the Chargers game.

I had to teach the chastity lesson in EQ this week. Before the lesson I told the class that I could never be a Bishop in a singles ward because I think teaching chastity is awkward. Seriously though, singles ward leaders never stop with the chastity stuff. I had a BYU SP that talked about sex more than a frat boy.

As an aside, the best talk I've ever heard on chastity was by Elder Holland when he was president of BYU titled "Souls, Symbols and Sacraments."

Wow, I don't know where you're attending church, but I can't remember the last time I heard it discussed in meetings.

Our lessons last Sunday were all on marriage. As the RS Instructor, I got to teach the lesson on Strengthening an Eternal Marriage to a room full of single sisters. I am drastically underqualified to be teaching anything of the kind. I would have rather had the chastity lesson the week before. I have no problem standing up there and telling them "don't fornicate, don't dress like a hooker, don't let guys grope you, and throw away your trashy magazines and romance novels." But no. I got the marriage lesson.

I fully agree. While at BYU it came up formally at least once a semester, and informally all the time. I once got up and left Priesthood meeting when I detected it was coming.

You could ensure your nonappointment as bishop if you stood up and stated,

"I'm not certain why I'm teaching the chastity lesson as I've never tried it."
