Default If I were president of the church, I would abolish Pioneer Day

I would also minimize the importance of family history aside from what is required for "work for the dead."

It has turned into ancestor worship day and I'm sick of it.

Just because you have one less paid holiday by choosing to not live in Utah is no reason to be mad at us who live in Zion.

There was nary a mention of Pioneer Day today. I'd forgotten all about it.

The state holiday is fine and appropriate. I'm referring to the Sacrament meetings where all the speakers are direct descendants of early pioneers and in many cases use it to talk about "their" ancestors. Oh, and the pioneer who's name seems to never come up? Jesus Christ.

It's idolotry as far as I'm concerned. Instead of quoting scriptures, they quote the family history compiled by Uncle LaSoAndSo, etc.

That was probably tongue-in-cheek, but in my 10 years in Utah I've never worked for a company that offers July 24th as a paid "holiday" or even as a day off. However I've only worked for two companies.

Ok, I see. My mistake.

I missed church today. The 5 year old was sick and we can't leave her home alone.

We got the trifecta. The youth speaker from pioneer stock so grateful for her brave ancestors, quoting extensively from her Uncle so and so's family hisotry. The Rockwall ward pioneer, reciting the history of our ward and how when they moved here they had to drive an hour to get to church, etc. And the final speaker was of course someone who has the same last name as a certain presidential candidate.

Yes, it was TIC. You must not work in the banking industry, eh?

Being self employed, I'm giving myself the day off, but it isn't paid.

It's all part of the master plan to imitate the Roman Catholics with Mormon "Saints." I'm ready to canonize 'em all if it can speed up introducing the sale of indulgences.
