Default Weight Bigots

What form of overweightness bugs you?

The morbidly obese rotund types?

The big gut, butt crack exposure?

The hanging fat from arms?

The non sixpack stomach types?

Any others?

Default It's none of my business.

In all seriousness, unless the person's size is directly impacting you (e.g. sitting next to an obese person on an airplane or health problems of a loved-one due to size), why should the size of another human concern us?

the kind where their obesity makes me have to pick up their slack.

like the guy in ROTC who couldn't carry his pack, and I had to carry it for him.

Increases your insurance rates (due to their health problems).

All risky behaviors do this. Moreover it's not really obesity per se, its really the lifestyle and conditions typically associated with obesity.

I'll just say this. I quite often see obese people doing things like buying a pack of ding dongs together with a Mountain Dew at say 9:00 a.m. This type of thing just leaves me agape at any time of day. I know it's not kind to judge, but from my observations I think a lot of obesity is indeed due to food intake, probably more food choice than quantity. Junk food is probably a more damaging addiction in our country than porn or whatever you want to name. Why isn't there a D&C section on it?

that obesity by itself doesn't cause health problems.

this was the view until not long ago. That obesity was just a symptom.

now it is recognized as a unique health problem in and of itsefl.

I agree we are being unkind and uncharitable in judging, and my wife chides me for my lack of charity.

However, given we're in a country where it's easy to have good health, to see persons act so much against self-interest bugs me. I know they are impacting my health care premiums and reducing our country's productivitiy.
