Also, will it register as attendance if I pass security and then leave immediately? I'm already considering ways to beat the system. I appreciate your thoughts.

As a clerk I would think I would have heard something about tracking temple attendance at the ward level if that were going to happen. Not in the works as of right now.

THey stopped doing it when they realized that the recommend holders could also buy pens and make their own marks, thereby unrighteously enhancing their chances for being called to a leadership position.

Why would anyone want to do that? I'm currently second guessing my decision to be clean shaven and wear a white shirt each week, as such has resulted in the unnecessary occupation of my weekday mornings from 6-7a.m.

I seem to recall something of that nature. Perhaps I'm conflating when the Vegas temple marked down from which stake you came from.

I remember the old bar codes, the other methods but I would surprised if the Church at some point didn't use the aggregate information. OTOH, I can't see what value the Church really has in looking at personal information.

They stopped after they noticed mine was ringed in blue pen.

My parents told me that when they were younger, the "recommend checkers" would mark your recommend each time you went to the temple, and the bishop and stake president would sometimes discuss attendance based on these marks during interviews.

They have lots of other good stories. For example, the RLDS would freely allow the LDS use their buildings for all of their church meetings in Missouri (at no cost), back when the LDS Church didn't have many chapels there. I thought that was cool. Would we do the same for them?

10-20 seconds with a Sharpie and I could be the most pious temple-goer in the stake.

Does anybody know people who can fake a bar code readably insert? Where is Jason Bourne when you need him.

What was that line about the apple falling from the tree? This reminds me of a Calvin and Hobbes sketch ...
