I know it's not kind to judge, but from my observations I think a lot of obesity is indeed due to food intake, probably more food choice than quantity. Junk food is probably a more damaging addiction in our country than porn or whatever you want to name. Why isn't there a D&C section on it?
Whole foods doesn't sell ding dogs and Mt. Dew.

Where are you shopping these days?

With medical underwriting for life insurance, being overweight does not in and of itself result in higher premiums (unless someone is grossly overweight). If someone is slightly overweight but checks out with blood pressure, blood and urinalysis, they still get the standard insurance rates.

I couldn't tell you how it works for health insurance.

How common is it to see an old obese person walking around? Not.

No I submit obese persons are likely ill more often. And although some premiums may not be immediately reflected in premiums, they do have indirect impact.

I think that the life insurance trails the evidence in this case. I hear a lot about how obesity is now considered an independent health risk, whereas before it wasn't.

Mortality studies are continually being done, both as an industry and internally. I guarantee you if this was a statistically significant issue, the medical underwriting criteria would change.

The kind where the fat person is offended if the skinny person mentions a concern about being too skinny (as though the comment had anything to do with them), but see nothing wrong with continually puting the skinny person in an awkward position by talking about their own fatness. I never know what to say to those kinds of remarks so I usually just sit there in silence.
