Where I am going camping tonight

It's one of the local scout camps. Looks to be smack dab in the middle of a suburb, if you look at the satellite image. But I think my boys are looking forward to it, because we have camped on the same private land about 7 times in a row. |

I talked to my boss, who has been involved in scouting from boyhood. He says this camp is "where I grew up."
He says that back in the old days, there was no development around it, and they would hike pretty far away from the camp. Interesting. |

I know that is true of one nearby camp our troop would visit when I was a kid. The "tiny town" that was nearby has grown up around it. Fortunately it has a lake on one side, though its bounded on the other side by a small easement, then a freeway. They have another camping area in the hinterlands though. I doubt that will ever see that scale of development, forest fires or logging encrouchment may be the only risks.

yeah, this camp is bounded by freeways on two sides.
I'll be falling alseep to the rhythm and rumble of big rigs making the midnight run. (see, if you break up your sentences, it is poetry) |
