Default Ngata got me thinking, would you come to BYU?

I saw the article posted on the other board and the mixed reactions to Ngata's decision to go to Oregon over the Y. This made me think, if I were a blue chip high school football player, would I go elsehwere over the Y?

I bleed blue as much as the next cougar fan, but I am not sure I would play for the Y had I options in the Pac-10, SEC, or ACC.

comes down to PT.

If I could get some PT at a BCS School....I would go to that BCS School.

Choosing BYU eliminates any chance at playing for a national title. It also almost certainly eliminates a chance to play in any BCS bowl. I have to think that would figure into any blue chippers decision.

Depends on how much you like BYU, I imagine. When I was 18, if I'd been an FB player, I'd have gone to the Y over anyone.

That's very true in my case as well. Of course we were only 4 years removed from a national championship when I was a freshman. Those 80's teams spawned a whole generation of kids who would choose the Y over anyone. Now, I think the BCS might screw that up a bit.

PT would be a big issue for me as well. But then take the USC backup QB who got drafted. But in my post I said blue chip player, any blue chipper will get PT or at least a shot no matter what school. Imagine the chicks you could pull playing in the SEC.

I, like outlier, would have probably chosen BYU as an 18-year-old football player. But like you said, so many things have changed since the 80s, making it that much harder to get blue chip LDS kids to come to BYU. The BCS versus mid-major issue is key to the future IMO. While the HC hinders overall recruiting, other aspects of the program (loyal following, history, ability to schedule top BCS schools, facilities, etc.) make BYU very attractive to recruits, especially LDS ones. Being able to add the ability to complete for a NC and/or play in a major bowl game could swing the pendulum in our favor in most cases.

That's why we pray for a major restructuring in college football at least twice a day.
