Default BBC Looks at Mormons

A few weeks back I drove to Belgium and listened to BBC along the way. That day they were featuring a series of short reports on the LDS Church ("Church of the Latter-Day Saints") that were quite refreshing. Romney’s candidacy provided the catalyst and the message appeared to be, “These Mormons aren’t quite as odd as you might think.” While I heard a number of these along the way, the one that stood out to me focused on race, highlighting the new chapel in Harlem and interviewing several African American members of the ward there, among them a family that runs a fairly well-known soul food restaurant (I can’t remember the name). Overall, I thought The Church could not have produced a better PR series than these short vignettes. Below is a link to one of these reports linked via the Meridian website:

New Look at the Mormon Church

The British accent makes us sound that much for sophisticated.

One thing we will miss when we leave here is access to all that BBC has to offer. It has a great series of stations and variety of programming (TV and radio) that I wish was better emulated in the U.S. in terms of content and approach. You actually learn something, and when discussing issues, I find they try to be as impartial as possible.

Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.
