Listening to the author of The Death of Conservatism on Bill Moyer's show.

He's very smart, and has much historical background to offer. Sam Tanenhaus.

I'm sitting here wondering what the future of conservatism is.

Who will lead them out of the wilderness? Not the National Review. Not the Michelle Malkins, the Glenn Becks, and the other talking heads.

Creativity, freedom, and personal responsibility. The core of conservatism is that our government must sustain these things. I cannot think of a single conservative that excites me in any way.

It's tough to sell principles over government programs. One side says, "we will fix this problem with this program." The other side has to argue that we must sustain what is uniquely American: creativity, freedom, and personal responsibility. Weak people always choose specifics. And no conservative can inspire Americans.

Really what needs to happen is this: Conservatives need to show PROOF, as in scientific proof, that their values help Americans. Because right now, the average American does not believe it.
