Piece on NPR this morning about Gordon Smith
talking about how far he has moved to the left, in hopes of being re-elected. Even going so far as suggesting that Bush's actions in Iraq have been criminal.
(Gordon is LDS, for those of you who didn't know). |

His brother is fairly liberal as well (he is a judge on the 9th Circuit). I don't know that Sen. Smith is putting on a show.

Gordon Smith is a Udall, so the fact that he became a republican in the first place was a move to the right. One could argue that he's just getting back to his roots.

There are lots of active Udalls, just not many in the direct political tree.
