Seeing as how "liberal" is a label that most of the civilized world considers to be a good thing, this is a bit like the loony bin residents deciding that the rest of the world is crazy. It's ironic that the thing that supposedly make liberals nutty (the desire for the government to provide for their needs, which is an obviously inaccurate caricature to begin with) is extremely prevalent among the right-wing nanny-staters. I would even argue that wanting the government to take care of the poor is orders of magnitude more rational than wanting the government to protect me from ever seeing a nipple on tv.

The only thing this study proves is that even smart people can be blinded by bitter partisanship. Of course, we already knew that.

It should also be pointed out that even those on the right are often able to recognize worldnetdaily as a bastion of irrationality. It figures that they'd be the ones to pick up on this non-story.

If you could see yourself when this happens, you would want the government to protect you, too.

Civilized world? It seems that only liberals consider it a good label.

That's basically true, but there are far more people in this world that consider themselves liberal than there are Republicans. In Europe, "liberal society" is synonymous with "modern society." American Republicans represent less than 2% of the world, so I get a kick out of them thinking they represent the proper way to think about everything.

Well, I'm an American, dammit. I don't care what the rest of the world thinks.

Spin, spin, spin.....your apologies sound like this...."blah, blah, blah."

Your posts constantly ring the "often in error, but never in doubt" bell.

And you believe the labels here apply to Europeans? Other than some good scenery, good food, nice historical sites, and some great cars with an occasional beautiful woman, what do we want from Europe? Politically almost nothing and I certainly don't wish to emulate them. The best of the world liberals would be considered conservatives here. The statists would be our liberals.

How are my words spin but this psychiatrist's are not? Because you agree with him? Really? Of all the reasons to not be a liberal, "because everyone who doesn't think exactly like me on a giant suite of unrelated issues simply must be mentally ill" might be the worst I've ever heard.

Calling someone a political liberal in Europe denotes support for free markets which we occasionaly call classical liberalism here.
