Omaha shooting
Since it hasn't been mentioned yet, I just wanted to say how sad I am about this. We spent 4 years in Omaha during grad school and grew to love the town. The people that we met were great - salt of the earth. We actually lived in Bellevue, where this kid was from. My oldest son was born just a couple of miles from the mall where it took place.
I'll never understand the mind of a shooter of this type. Without a doubt he was very disturbed and severely depressed, but still.... An awful tragedy. |

He had an SKS. Which is norminally an assault rifle. But is really just a 10 round magazine-top fed semiautomatic rifle that shoots the same rifle round as the AK-47.
About the same cost as a cheap .22 rifle. Fortunately it is rare that people want to take out their own misery on other people in the form of murder. But it is not rare enough. |

He said now he's famous, but in a few weeks no one will remember his name. I can't remember the name of the V-Tech killer anymore. Note to all those wanting to go down in infamy: Instead of shooting at random strangers in a public place, try making a cool video and posting it on You Tube. That is a much better way to get your face seen by millions.
