Default Sting worst lyrics

This sucks.

The Police are one of my top 5 favorite bands, and I've always considered Sting a brilliant lyricist.

Message in a Bottle is one of my favorite songs with maybe my favorite lyrics in any song. I love the message of solving problem of one's needs not being met by reaching out to meet a need for someone else.

Sorry Jay. I have to agree with the list. Sting's lyrics can be awful. "I hope the Russians love their children too" being a prime example.

And Rush has lots of cheesy lyrics. I probably would have put them #1.

OK, Russians love their children too, a bit cheesy.

But come on.

You can't beat that.

You mean the brilliant "sending out an SOS" repeated 73 times in a row? I find Sting's songs often have some interesting lyrics, but he seems to run out of them before the song is done and is caught in the Mother of All Refrains having to repeat one line over and over again until the radio DJ finally administers the merciful Fade de Gras.

Walked out this morning, dont believe what I saw
Hundred billion bottles washed up on the shore
Seems Im not alone at being alone
Hundred billion castaways, looking for a home

My opinion: deepest meaning in any rock song I've heard. I know this is a silly topic and I sound silly, but I really do mean it.

Sting probabyl deserves a place on the ten best and the ten worst lyricists lists. Some fo his stuff is very good (and the article I read knocked his refernce to Nabokov, which I actually thought was sort of clever) but some of his stuff is just awful. IMO, he got more and more pompous as he was more and more successful, and accordingly, there were fewer people that he would listen to and who would tell him that some line or another was pretty silly or pretentious.

Perhaps I have just hated Sting ever since he bragged about having sex for eight hours straight. Freakin' show-off.
