Default Belle and Sebastian

Interesting group, been around a long time, hitting it a little bigger with their latest album, The Life Pursuit.

They are Scottish, sort of like indie pop.

Check it out.

I like "Funny Little Frog" on their latest album.

Also the song "The State I am in" on one of their older albums.

I was listening to another Scottish singer today - Roddy Frame aka Aztec Camera. I don't know if he sounds anything like Belle and Sebastian, though.

The album I'm waiting for is the first one for the Raconteurs, which is Jack White's (of the White Stripes) new project.

just saw B&S tonight at a club. Not exactly "rocking", but they are good musicians. Crowd was very yuppie. Lots of women. Lead singer looks and acts like he's in a church choir. Which he is, btw.

Took some pics, checking em out right now to see how they turned out.

Aztec Camera is one of my favorites. Thanks for bringing it up, as it will now motivate me to find the CDs and listen to them again.

As long as we're on the topic of rather obsscure bands from the UK, anyone else here like the Pogues as much as I do? Great stuff.

I don't know the Pogues, but another obscure UK band is the Waterboys - with a heavy Irish folk flavor. They're actually quite prolific, and have a very broad style. They do a great cover of "Purple Rain," too.

Love the Waterboys. "The Whole of the Moon" is one of my favorites. Great stuff.

Their front man went on to start another great, obscure band called World Party (a Waterboys song).

I think it's his voice that gets me. I find that the artists who have been my favorites over the years have very distinctive voices - Waterboys, White Stripes, Alphaville, Midnight Oil, even Roddy Frame.

By the way, "Whole of the Moon" is my absolute favorite song of all time. But I won't listen to it in public - strange, huh?

I can relate to the voice thing, as you've mentioned some of my favorite bands as well and for that same reason. I'd also add Allison Moyet (from Yaz) in that group as well.

Perhaps you don't like to listen to "Whole of the Moon" in public because you're a werewolf?

You should listen to it in public with the volume cranked. Let the neighbors know what good music is.

BTW, find some Pogues stuff and give it a try. Best way to describe it would be Irish folk/punk. I'm sure you'd like it as the front man (Shane MacGowan) has a voice like nothing you've probably heard. I'm still bummed that they split in about '96 or '97.
