Default Regarding MMM, thought this was interesting

Here's one thing I'll never understand; with all the temple work that needs to be done out there, why has somebody taken the time to have the work done for the Fancher party already? I can't imagine that those folks were itching to join up. It just ends up making us look bad in these kinds of articles.

There are LDS descendants of the Fancher party, so why can't they do work for their own ancestors?

If I were the church, I wouldn't relinquish it either. I'm sure what they would want on the property would put the church in the worst light possible.

I liken this to the people who do the work for the famous and infamous before they do their own work. If it was done by LDS descendants then I have no problem with it. I just have my doubts that it happened that way. Then we get news articles where people who know nothing about us see that we've baptized all the people who were massacred and it looks odd at best.

The church made a horrible precedent with the holocaust victims, IMO.

Was that an overt action by the church or an action by some zealous members that slipped in under the radar?

I'm saying that the church should have respectfully told the holocaust groups that we do not discriminate based on race or creed, whom we baptize for the dead. We can see how it might be offensive, but we cannot stop doing what we do. God is not a respecter of persons, and neither should we be.

So now, we will have every group from tomorrow until forever asking us to not baptize their dead, or to remove them from the records, if we already have. And all they have to say is "you did it for them, and you won't do it for us???"

taking Jews out of the thing sends a strong and clear message to members: "work for the dead, in this mortal probation, doesn't really matter."

THanks, I got the message.
