Default When you are referring to "mormons" or "members"

who are you talking about. Temple recommend holders, people who attend church at least once a month, people who attend family functions at church, people who describe themselves as "mormons" even though they do not participate in chruch at all.

I personally know of people who do not attend any LDS functions unless it involves a family member going on a mission or some other friend or family member function at church. Yet, they describe themselves as mormons.

So when for instance someone says "Utah Mormons", who do they consider as "mormons."

I think Utah Mormon can have several different meanings.

It can refer to the over-zealous arrogant Mormon who lives outside of Utah, but moved from Utah.

It can also refer to a sense of general hypocrisy among the Mormons currently living in Utah.

I probably should have used a different example. All the time we hear people use the term "member" or "mormon".

Should I think in terms of "active" with those words or include active and in-active.

Don't we need a special term for Utah County Mormons? Aren't they the creme de la creme?

Ouch. I find I am participating in the hi-jacking of my own post.

I will answer my own question. When I use the term "mormon" or "member" I am usually referring to active and inactives.

I generally mean anyone who self-identifies themselves as a Mormon. This would include all active members, and probably most inactive members. I work with someone whose husband has not been to church since he was about 10, and he has no interest in returning, but if you asked him if he is a Mormon, he would say Yes, so I would as well.
