Coaching candidates
1. Internal candidates - Anae, etc. Please, Dear God, no, no, no.
2. Ken N. at Navy 3. Sitake DC at Oreg St 4. Anderson at Stanford 5. Mike Leach (seems impossible) 6. K Whitt 7. Ty Detmer (not qualified) 8. Tom Holmoe (hiring himself) 9. Andy Reid (not going to happen) 10. Robbie Bosco (technically an internal candidate) |

You guys should thank Anae for one thing. He's a big reason Doman isn't on this list.

And the last time the school went outside and got the fans' popular choice it was Crowton . And that was beyond a disaster. Not saying I think it should be someone from within BYU necessarily, but it would be really hard to succeed with someone who is unfamiliar with how the school works and how to win here. And merely being LDS doesn't mean they have a clue about that.

That was the Bateman administration. I don't think it's that bad anymore. And the people he had running the athletic department (Skousen and Val Hale) were woefully unqualified to do something as important as find a new football coach.

If they hire Howell or Anae, I can't support that. The fans will go nuts and the very first sign of poor performance the stands will be empty.

The idea that only an internal candidate could work is a symptom of how dysfunctional and awful BYU is.
Good thing is that I don't believe you. |

By internal I mean someone who has had some kind of familiarity with or connection to BYU in some way so that he at least knows what the honor code is. Crowton was LDS and didn't even understand that.

It doesn't have to be them. Whittingham would work great. I wish that were possible. I'd probably gamble on Guy Holliday. He's been there long enough to get it. He seems like a smart football guy, is a great recruiter and could bring in both LDS and non-LDS kids. Everyone he has recruited in has been great. A non-LDS coach if it's the right fit could be great for the program and school in many ways.

Only way to send a message to BYU is for the stands to be empty.
I saw lots of empty seats this year at LES. That's the way we are going to vote on this coaching hire. |
