Default Delaware

We spent an elongated weekend at the beaches in Delaware (Bethany Beach primarily); it was my first time to Joe Biden's territory, and we had a great time. The beaches were beautiful (the waves were bit large for my liking, but Hanna had just come through, so maybe that was part of it). More than anything, I enjoyed the drive through Delaware to get to the beaches: tidy little farming towns with corner barbecues put on by local Kiwanis clubs, lots of pretty little churches, fruit/vegetable stand literally every mile or so, very few chain restaurants, and the the extent a Lowe's has crept into the landscape, it is still surrounded by farms; quite a strange image to see a big-box store without strip malls, traffic lights, and concrete surrounding it.

I imagine Delaware took one look at its northern neighbor and said, "there's no way in hell we're going to let ourselves become like New Jersey."

You strike me as more of a Rehoboth Beach guy.

I did too, until I saw all the outlets, and then said, "Thanks, but no thanks."

Delaware is such a crappy state. Their toll and traffic on 95 is horrendous. I hate driving through the state. Once you pull off the freeway it's pretty, but east coast beaches can't touch the Hawaiian, Californian, and the Oregon beaches that Gidget and I are used to.

I spend a lot of time in Wilmington, DE. I'm glad other parts of the state are nicer.

The entire I-95 corridor up and down the East Coast is a national disgrace. It is arguably the most important transportation corridor in the United States, and it is four decades behind the times.

Agreed that East Coast beaches don't touch the Pacific, but we'll take what we can get. And very few oceanic destinations can touch the beauty of late-summer Maine.
