Default Watch out for Bigpiney's results at the St. George Tri

I will look out for him. I just signed up yesterday so don't look for mine. His will be a race, mine will be a workout.

You know I was hoping for that to be true, last year I finished 6th or 7th in my age group and was pretty pleased with myself. Then yesterday I was looking at the start list and saw that there are around 110 guys in my age group this year, so I am just hoping to not be in the bottom half of finishers.

The guys in my age group are getting faster and I'm getting slower due to lack of serious training. Not a good combination.

Last year, probably some time this week, I ran into a friend outside my office. He was with his wife grabbing a bite to eat for lunch. he told me he was getting ready to drive down to St. George for the triathlon. I thought outloud, "Hey isn't that Mothers Day weekend?" His response was a kind of muffled, mumbled "Yeah, it is", As his wife is burning a hole in the side of his head with her glare. Apparently that was a bit of a sore subject, as he was driving alone with a friend and she was staying home with the kids. On Mothers Day.

My wife is at a mountain bike race with a bunch of guys from her team, so I decided to head with my kids to St. George to develop some race fitness. I expect an ordinary performance.

As I recall. its a short enough race where you can go hard, suffer as much as you want and still live to tell about it. What are the distances? I could probably look it up, but am far too lazy right now.

Piney's doing the sprint, I'm doing the Olympic, which entails a 1500 meter swim, 40 K bike and a 10 K run. In worse case it will take about 2 hours 45. In best case under 2 hours 30 minutes. I suck at this distance but under 2:30 is not unthinkable, because I can almost break 5:00 in a half.

Piney's is half that.

I don't do sprints as I'm too slow. I'm not good at Olympics because I refuse to go hard enough. But I'm trying to race to do better at my next half.
