Good article on self-publishing with printing-on-demand

Given that I just self-published my first book, I thought I would read this, and I wasn't disappointed. |

okay, I haven't clicked on that link yet, but it still cracks me up that you are calling your photo book your publication.

Why not? It's a 40 page hardcover book with dust jacket. Containing original artistic photography.
Just because no one would want to buy it outside a group of 4 or 5 people doesn't mean that it isn't beautiful. If I ever become a famous photographer, that imprint will be worth TONS of money, given the extreme limited availability. Imagine if there were only 5 copies of Ansel Adams' first book. This is like my rookie baseball card, and there are only going to be 5 in existence. |

A gal at my office just had a book bound with all of her wedding pics.
She went through Shutterfly. I think it was about $20 each for the first 4 books, then $10 each after that. I assume this is pretty pricey compared to some of the other publish-on-demand companies, but it was apparently very easy to do and it turned out really well. |
