Interesting Japanese documentary on Netflix
Title: "The Great Happiness Space"
It's about male host bars in Japan. I had known of the hostess bars in Japan (men paying for the company of women). But I did know that the male version existed. A fascinating peak into a strange world. Most of the hosts look like the Japanese version of 80s glam rockers in suits. It's like they try to dress as particularly gay versions of the members of Duran Duran. Women pay to buy drinks and time with these hosts in bars. There is an interesting twist about halfway through the film. I won't say what it is. The film does not have nudity, but the content is adult in that you probably ought not watch it with kids. My wife did not watch it. But I was telling her about it and said, "I'd probably make the world's worst host." She says, "Yeah. Sitting and talking and listening to people." "No, being fake, dressing up, lying, and suffering fools." |

Don't read the reviews on Netflix if you don't want to know the (mild) spoiler.
