ESPN suspended Bill Simmons for 3 weeks
for calling Goodell a liar on his podcast.
And then he dared anyone to come after him. And then ESPN....came after him. Funny. Bill you are not bigger than the Evil Empire. |

Yesterday this was on every sports new website EXCEPT ESPN and Grantland.
It will be interesting to see if Bill Simmons gives us a "thank you sir, and may I have another." He really loves the platform that ESPN gives him, he gets to pontificate at halftime and post-game with the star retired players. He could rebel against the evil empire, but what would he do? Write for yahoo like Pat Forde? Be a Fox1 analyst? He must be beyond pissed. Cause he doesn't have any options that would be satisfying to him. He's not bigger than the game, he's not bigger than ESPN. |

This is where old school meets new school.
Is Bill Simmons a journalist? Does he need to abide by the codes of sports journalism? Or is he just a "blogger" who can say anything he wants, talk about the teams he roots for (Celtics, Patriots, Red Sox), and make things up as he goes along. The lines get blurred with new media. Remember that cougarboard guy who was reporting for a small Idaho newspaper in the BYU pressbox, and his cell phone went off with a BYU ringer, and he was kicked out and had his credentials revoked? At least that is how I remember it. |
