Babs' post about Harry Potter, final book
I thought Babs wrote up a long essay on the last Harry Potter. I never read it because I hadn't read the book yet. I did a search and can't find it. Help?

I think she put it in Pen and Sword.

All I remember is a short and absolutely hilarious post about "spending a day in bed with Harry".

Harry is one of the most annoying characters ever created.
A great psychological novelist (aka Tolstoy) Rowling is not. |

I'm halfway through reading #5 right now. I have never been more equally annoyed with 2 characters simultaneously in a book - Harry Potter and Professor Umbridge. Its almost nauseating, but I keep on reading. Only 430 pages to go....

Harry would have been a completely different character had a man written the book. But the Potter universe wouldn't have ever existed unless Rowling had come up with it.
Here's another thing: how come the origin of magic, or the source of it, was never really addressed. I like the existential thoughts that would arise out of addressing origins. |

Rule #1, Mike. NEVER try to analyze a Harry Potter book.

I was interested in the Potter universe's conception of an afterlife, and I don't think I am revealing too much to say that she does eventually address this somewhat, which I am glad.
death is the central question that drives religion and philosophy, and it's good she did not ignore it. |

You gotta remember that Mike is a psychiatrist. He can't help but analyze everything.
