BYU has been in decline since before 2000. It started with Lavell.
I think there is a decent argument that Bronco's best years were with the last of Crowton's recruits. You figure 2006-2009, when you count missions, were in the frame of Crowton recruiting.
And you also figure that Crowton was the last coach to really roll the dice on getting better non-LDS talent into BYU. It blew up big-time on him and cost him his job. It might be written that rape-gate marked the end for BYU. In that we could never recover, we could never be in a place to join the P5, we never had the talent again. We have guys that are more dedicated to their studies, church, and their wives and kids than football. THat's good. Good for their souls. But bad for football. |
