Oklahoma loses by 10 to the new #1, and had no chance of winning in the final minute. They drop 5 spots.

Missouri loses by 5 to the new #10, and had the ball and a chance to win in the final minute. They drop 10 spots.

The voters have their longstanding favorites, and USC and Oklahoma are two of them.

Sooners lost in a shootout for the ages. Made some mistakes and have atrocious special teams play, but mostly looked like a top ten team losing to a top two team. Missouri lost to an unproven #17 Oklahoma State. I'm-a-man's team isn't as solid as Texas. If you watched both games you saw that. Also, Missouri is mostly a one-horse show, and Daniel looked awfully weak. That contributed to their fall in the polls. Besides, how many Big 12 teams do you want in the top ten? If they'd kept Missouri up there half of the top ten would be Big 12 teams.

Don't forget that LSU got destroyed by Florida, and they dropped 9 (1 less than Missouri). Florida then jumped to 5, despite their one loss, while Oklahoma State beat #3 and is undefeated and falls in at #8. Hard to explain, other than the early season rankings make life very difficult for teams who are ranked low to start the season and unduly benefit teams who received a lot of preseason hype.
