Anyone read this memoir by Beryl Markham about her experiences as a bush pilot in Africa? She was also the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic from East to West. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beryl_Markham
I'm only part way through and enjoying it. The writing flows well and easily. I was somewhat disappointed to read that one of Markham's biographers made the claim that she did not write West with the Night, her screenwriter husband did. (Others claim they have no doubt she was in fact the author.) Nevertheless, I think it's worth a read. |

I read this several years ago. It was a fascinating read. Beryl Markham was a friend of Karen Blixen, the protagonist in the movie Out of Africa. I believe one of the characters in Out of Africa was based on Beryl Markham. I think I also remember reading that Blixen and Markham and Markham had a falling out when Markham had a fling with the Robert Redford character. If you liked the movie Out of Africa, you'll enjoy West with the Night.
