I finally have the number for Capt. Jacobsen's father who previously administered his now defunct education fund.

BACKSTORY: Capt. Jacobsen graduated from BYU, through the ROTC program, and eventually wound up in Iraq, where he was one of those killed by a homicide bomber in the mess tent in Mosul. He left behind a wife and kids. He was a brief acquaintance of mine. Zulu451 knew him much better than me.

I have calculated the funds we have raised thru amazon: it is just over $25.

I have left a message for Mr. Jacobsen (the father) and will soon cut a check.

I appreciate the fact that you all would bother to donate through buying through the Amazon link. It's a worthy cause, and it is a message (tho a small one), that others care about their loss and sacrifice.

In the spirit of Christmas, I will personally match the Amazon earnings, and contribute another $25.

If you feel so inclined to also contribute, I can pass along the address (when I get it), or you could send me funds, and I will include it with the cougarguard contribution.

Wow, we're to $960 in commitments with two more paypal donations on the way, which assuming they are at least $40 put together, then we have reached a total of $2000 with the anonymous matching donor!!

Wow.

This is what community is about. We have fun, we bicker, we laugh, we fight. But at the end of the day we come together and do something good. Something we can be proud of. Something that ways, not only are we a community, but we are a community that gives back.

Hats off to everyone that has participated, including the many who have purchased on amazon.com with the intent of doing so to donate to this family.

Really it's not the amount that matters. What I hope is that the family feels, if only for a second, that their loved one is not forgotten, and that people of the world love them more than they know. They have more friends than they ever knew.
