Default Obama plays the race card

Apparently Obama is telling audiences that McCain is warning voters Obama "doesn't look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills."

One liberal blogger (not the Obama camp, granted) noted his new campaign ad associates Obama "with oversexed and/or promiscuous young white women."

This may indicate some worry in the Obama camp after a bounceless foreign policy tour.

In other news Obama also says we can save as much oil from properly inflating our tires as we can from opening new oil resources.

Heh.

This CNN headline shows that Obama is still black, despite traveling to Europe.

You almost got it right Tex. Obama looked into his crystal ball and saw that McCain will say that Obama doesn't look like the presidents on the dollar bills.

All McCain has to do now is not say that and it will make Obama look a race baiting dumbass.

Now Obama is claiming that when he said the GOP would try to say Obama "doesn't look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills," he wasn't referring to being black, and that McCain is the one injecting race as an issue.

LOL, Obama, how stupid do you really think we are?

The NY Times had an excellent editorial on this topic.

That's one of the more ridiculous editorials I've read recently, and for the NY Times, that's saying something.

Here's a few editorials for the rest to read:

Rich Lowry:

Quote:
Afterward, an Obama spokesman implausibly insisted the dollar-bills comment was not about race: “What Barack Obama was talking about was that he didn’t get here after spending decades in Washington.” This is rich. George Washington didn’t serve in Washington either, given that the capital of the country was first New York and then Philadelphia. His path to the presidency went through Trenton, Valley Forge, and Yorktown (granted, quite different than Obama’s). As for the other presidents, neither Abraham Lincoln, nor Andrew Jackson, nor U.S. Grant was a Washington time-server prior to winning the White House.

Obama clearly was talking about race. He said much the same thing in Berlin: “I don’t look like the Americans who’ve previously spoken in this great city.” Did he merely mean that he has better-fitting suits and a slimmer frame?
National Review editors:

Quote:
But we suspect the race card will resurface, played by Obama’s supporters if not by the candidate himself. For them, no charge against Obama can be made innocent of racial bias. Say that he is presumptuous, and they will accuse you of calling him an “uppity black man” — as though the fact that racists have called all confident black men arrogant means that it is automatically wrong to notice the trait in any of them. His ties to the Rev. Wright? Off limits. His wife’s provocative remarks? Now you’re slandering a black woman: You’re racist and probably sexist, too. All of these paranoid interpretations of normal political back-and-forth follow naturally from the premise that there can be no legitimate reason to resist the One.

This is arguing something different than what you initially posted, which is that Obama meant to refer to race when referring to the dollar bill. I agree he meant to refer to race. I agree he isn't honestly representing what his statement meant. So?

Obama is in a tough spot with race, and McCain, just like Clinton, knows it. Clinton worked her hardest to get Obama to say something racial so she could portray him as the racial candidate. McCain's ad was a similar attempt. Unfortunately, Obama fell for the attempt by McCain after doing so well in rebuffing Clinton's efforts. What is he to do now? He was responding to McCain but can't afford for race to be the issue. His campaigns response is that he wasn't talking about race at all (and of course he was) because that is about the only response he can give without McCain accomplishing what he was trying to accomplish (which is repugnant on McCain's part).

Your initial post was that Obama "played the race card." You clearly don't understand politics very well if that is how you interpret the sequence of events. Obama has far more to lose than he could ever gain by "playing the race card," which is why he has been working his hardest to avoid even the perception that he has done so.

Saying the "celebrity" ad was racial because it used two popular white girls is stupid. I completely and totally reject that premise. Moreover, the "OJ" allusion in the NY Times may be the stupidest thing I've ever seen in print.

Obama is making unforced errors. He's not "responding" to anything. The McCain campaign didn't force him to say this in July:

Quote:
“They’re going to try to make you afraid of me. He’s young and inexperienced and he’s got a funny name. And did I mention he’s black?”
They didn't force him to say this in Germany:

Quote:
“I don’t look like the Americans who’ve previously spoken in this great city.”
And they didn't force this one either. Obama is tripping over his shoelaces without any Republican help, and kudos to McCain for calling him on it.
