Hypothetical Question

Lets say you have church from 1-4 and the stake has scheduled a priesthood meeting from 630 -8:30 at the stake center which is 40 minutes from your house. You and your wife and decided to go on a nature hike after church as its cooled considerably from the high 90s you have been seeing the last couple of weeks. Obviously you aren't going (I wouldnt go even if I had nothing planned) but you get asked by the high councilman if you will be attending (apparently your stake is getting anal about people attending these meetings). so what do you say?

1) the truth
2) "No I wont wont be there"
3) a large tirade about how you spend too much time to begin with going to church meetings and that you wont be driving an hour and half (sum total of time) to hear a glorified sacrament meeting
4) Lie and say you are going
5) actually go and cancel the hike with your wife
6) N/A

I like sixth. Play as if you are deaf.

I don't believe a HC would ask me. I might state, "I'll think about it, I haven't discussed things with my wife."

Tell the HC that you need some family time. For a church that teaches family togetherness we sure attend a lot of meeting that keep us apart.

I wonder about this.

Why can leaders preach family togetherness but such leaders spend so much time at Church that those leaders don't have together time?

Right now, I'm on calling-lite, but I figure I have it best. In the past, I didn't go to children's events, because I either had work or Church.

Now, I don't work as hard and have easy church obligations. Guys I know campaigning for heavy positions, get them. Yet they don't see their children at soccer tournaments or go on many family outings.

What is the Church if its leaders don't practice this all important aspect.

I have meetings before church. btw its not just Phood meeting its all stake meeting that I am opposed to attending

Unless one's in leadership, I don't see the purpose with the abundance of meetings.
