they don't factor it into admissions for alumni's kids (or perhaps, it is too easy to get in, so the same rules don't apply).

I have a list 100 long, and when they fulfill those 100 things, I will come up with a list of 100 more.

I got a call from BYU fundraising about a month ago. This is how it went:
Me: Hello. BYU Freshman girl: Hi Mr. YOhio? I am Amanda at BYU Fundraising. How are you today? Me: I'm well thank you. And you? BYUFG: You're doing well? Awesome! Me too! Are you familiar with the BYU Annual fund? It's an awesome program that allows alumni to give money to the school, blah, blah blah. It's really awesome! What are you doing in Ohio? Me: I went to grad school here and I am now working here. BYUFG: You went to grad school there? Awesome! I have a cousin who went to Cleveland on a mission. He loved it and said it was so amazing and awesome! Well, what we're doing with the annual fund is, blah, blah, blah. How much would you like to donate this year? Any amount would help! Even twenty dollars would be awesome! Me: If I'm interested I'll earmark my tithing. BYUFG: Awesome! |

Good ol' president Boren is always kicking off some kind of "campaign" here. But he hires international students to make the phone calls so I've yet to hear the word awesome (or anything similarly enthusiastic) uttered. Actually, now that I think of it, I can rarely understand anything being said. I just get the general impression they're asking for money again, and move on from there. Incidentally, Oklahoma alums don't donate in hopes their kids will be admitted, they donate to get closer to the fifty yard line. |

That's crap. How can the OU football team be proud of that effort?

It's called the "build a university to make the football team proud" campaign. But the students making the phone calls keep thinking we're talking soccer instead of real football. You combine this confusion with the incomprehensible accents and the elderly senile alums, and the campaign really isn't going anywhere. ![]() |
