Pan's Labyrinth
Watched it over the weekend. Great flick. Best movie I've seen this year next to Little Children.
I was a little scared off by the reports of how violent it was and the movie jacket that looked a little dark and Satanic, but it was nothing of the sort. Isn't it amazing how you can watch a movie in subtitles and then reflect back on it without remembering the subtitles? It's like your sensory experience of listening to the dialogue and watching the movie crowd out the memory of reading the subtitles, and you remember it the same as any other movie. |

I rented it last week. Been watching movies on my laptop since my DVD player busted (just haven't got a new one yet) and for some reason it wouldn't play on my laptop. Took it back to the store, replaced it with another one and the same response,,,it wouldn't play.
So I still haven't seen it, but would really like to.

I watched it this weekend, too, and was planning to search for Mike's thread on it, but I had thought there was more to it.
It was an interesting film, but I haven't had time to reflect upon it much. Those Spaniards know how to throw in some real quick gore, though.

Pan's Labyrinth is one of the best movies I have ever seen. I loved it. But it's not a movie I will watch very often or own. Not really a pick me up type of movie. I also thought the translation was pretty good but there are some phrases and words that the English language doesn't have an equal for and some of those moments were very poignant though I think they still came across very well.

I enjoyed it very much, except for my wife glaring at me for taking her to a Spanish subtitled movie.
Yet it flowed. The final scene before the final scene was quite moving, even one could predict it.

has anyone seen
devil's backbone?
same director, similar themes. I liked it, but it does have have disturbing scenes like pan's l did. it is also set during the Spanish Civil War and the protagonist is a young orphan. |
